Guwahati College Central Library was established with the establishment of the College in the year 1964. S. P. Bhattacharya, retired professor of the department of Bengali of the College was the In-Charge Librarian till qualified librarian Shri Nagen Talukdar joined the service in 1976. The Library has very good collection of textbooks, reference books, journals, popular journals etc and cater to the needs of the readers. The modern library services and facilities have been progressively implemented to keep track with the changing scenario of library services. The present three storeyed library building was inaugurated on 3rd August, 2016 by the then Education Minister of Assam, Honourable Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The entire library is under CCTV surveillance. 12 numbers of CC cameras have been installed for the purpose. 10 numbers of computers are there for Internet browsing. The library has reading room seating capacity of 80 numbers in reference and Textbook section. Other sections like periodical section, Rare book section, UNESCO Corner have separate reading room facility. Moreover work to have cloud based Institutional Repository using D-Space software has also been started.
Library Automation: Library is partially automated using SOUL 2.0 developed by Information and Library Network (INFLIBNET Centre). Entire collection of books has not been included for data entry purpose. Less used and obsolete books have been transferred to archival section. About 12000 books are there in book database. Users can access the books through OPAC.
Access to E-Resources: Library has membership of N-LIST (INFLIBNET) since 2010. Both the teaching and non teaching staffs have been provided the user Id and Password for accessing e- resources. The users have the access to e books (160000+), e-Journals (6000+).
Moreover live streaming videos on accessing e resources from other portals like NDLI, Swayamprabha, PDF drive, DOAB, DOAJ have been prepared and awareness is provided to the students and faculty members to enable them in accessing e- resources.
